Having spent most of my life (minus 3 years in uni) up to Nov 2005 (literally, the day I got married), in various part of Klang Valley, it's no surprise that I'm a big city girl at heart.
While I'm adjusting to living in Seremban fairly well - I mainly love my large garden - shopping, eating out and nightlife here really SUCKS.
I love being able to find anything and everything I want, anytime I want it. Whether it's a gravy mix (Bisto or Gravox) for my roast chicken, with ready-made stuffing if I want it, or a variety of corn chips in any flavour for my tomato salsa.
Forget about buying make-up or perfume here. There's the drugstore ie Guardian and Watson's variety or Body Shop. No Chanel, Lancome and sadly no MAC, so forget about Stila.
Clothes? Sorry nothing either, unless you count Reject Shop and FOC. There's a tiny Timberland for guys and a Levi's store, but it's mainly house Jusco-Parkson-Giant brands. *groans*
Handbags and shoes - forget about handbags altogether. Make that shoes also. I nearly died looking at the variety they have at Isetan now. Here, the only decent ones are granny Clarks or Primavera (sad innit). Even if you have the money, that's about the only types available.
Eating out - this is really what prompted this entry. Since it's pay day, thought I'd treat the family to some authentic Thai food. There was a decent place in town that Az and I used to frequent but haven't been to in about a year.Drove there just now and it's been replaced with yet another Mamak restaurant. Now, I don't know where we can find a decent Thai place that is not a made-up stall with fairy lights. We tried but ended up going home with our stomach empty! As for western food, there's probably like 2-3 places that serves steak. Forget about Tex-Mex, Korean, Japanese (there's only one at Allson Resort), Lebanese, Vietnamese etc. etc.
I feel so deprived.
I miss window shopping even if it means looking at stuff I can't afford. I miss trying out food from different countries. I miss Crispy Chicken Salad and Midwestern Lamb Chops at Chilis, everything at Tarbush and Elephant Ribs at Out of Africa. I miss not having to drive for over an hour to buy my MAC blusher. I miss Dorothy Perkins.
